Electromobility and photovoltaics in practice: tax incentives, economic potential and municipal successes

Tax “investment booster” for e-vehicles

The German government is planning a special depreciation allowance for electric vehicles used for business purposes:

  • 75% in the first year, then graduated to 10%, 5%, 5%, 3% and 2% over a total of six years;
  • Valid for purchases between July 2025 and the end of 2027, also applies to electric commercial vehicles and more expensive electric company cars as well as extended regulation on 0.25% taxation for company cars. The aim is to stimulate the economy through this “immediate incentive” effect and to promote the switch to electromobility in companies.

However, critics such as Deutsche Automobil Treuhand point out weaknesses:

  • Leasing models (around 80% of company e-cars) hardly benefit directly, as the lessor depreciates instead of the company;
  • possible side effects such as shorter lease terms.

E.ON analysis: Solar + e-mobility synergy saves tens of thousands of euros

According to a recent study by E.ON, companies benefit not only ecologically but also financially from photovoltaics and electromobility:

  • Large medium-sized company (e.g. 749 kWp PV, 20 e-cars):
    – PV amortizes in ~7 years, saves approx. 99,000 €/year;
    – e-mobility amortizes in 1 year, saves around 12,000 €/year over 10 years.
  • Medium-sized companies (≈300 kWp, 5 e-cars):
    – PV pays for itself in approx. 6 ¾ years, saves ~€43,000/year;
    – own charging station pays for itself in just 2 years, as electricity costs are significantly lower – only approx. half as expensive as fuel.
  • Small businesses (e.g. pharmacy with 23 kWp):
    – PV amortizes in ~7½ years, saves approx. 2,700 €/year;
    – e-mobility amortizes more slowly due to high leasing shares.

E.ON CEO Filip Thon concludes: “The combination of PV and e-mobility increases competitiveness, reduces COâ‚‚ and promotes climate-friendly business.

Practical example: EWL Landau electrifies municipal district service

Entsorgungs- und Wirtschaftsbetrieb Landau (EWL) is converting its fleet to be locally emission-free:

  • Four electric vans (three Citroën ë-Berlingo, one Iveco eDaily) including their own charging infrastructure are now in operation.
  • Areas of application: Green maintenance, winter services, janitor services in city districts.
  • According to CEO Lorig, the advantages are greater ride comfort and lower noise emissions – a benefit for employees and the urban climate.

The combination of new depreciation, demonstrably lucrative PV e-mobility strategies and local commitment makes electromobility not only climate-friendly for companies and municipalities, but also financially attractive – a strong signal for the expansion of clean mobility throughout Rhineland-Palatinate.
