KSB acquires stake in large-scale heat pump developer ecop

Austrian technology leader ecop is attracting attention with two pioneering developments: a strategic financing round with KSB as lead investor and a technological breakthrough in industrial high-temperature heat pumps.

KSB joins: 10.5 million euros for growth and series production

In May 2025, ecop successfully completed a financing round of 10.5 million euros. The international pump manufacturer KSB is not only participating financially, but is also contributing its extensive expertise in rotating systems. In addition to KSB, the European Innovation Council Fund (EICF), InnoEnergy, New Energy Technologies, Finadvice and almost all previous backers also invested.

The capital will be used to expand production capacities and for the series development of a new rotor that will raise the efficiency and performance of industrial heat pumps to a new level.

New rotor – more compact, more robust, hotter

Parallel to the financing, ecop is presenting a completely new type of rotor based on diffusion bonding: The entire heat pump process takes place in a solid stainless steel block with around 300,000 microchannels – efficient, low-maintenance and designed for high performance.

The highlights:

  • Temperature range of over 100 K, output temperatures over 200 °C
  • No more moving individual parts – the entire block rotates
  • Extremely compact: only 6 m x 2 m x 1.5 m, half the size of the previous model
  • Fewer seals, therefore more durable and lower maintenance
  • Scalability through modular design

The new technology will be available from 2025 and will enable the robust, economical and emission-free provision of high process temperatures for the first time – a decisive contribution to the decarbonization of industry.
