The electrification of company fleets offers companies considerable economic advantages. According to an analysis by LADE, the targeted use of electromobility and intelligent charging management could save up to 5.6 billion euros a year. Electric vehicles reduce energy costs by more than 50% compared to diesel vehicles. The combination with self-generated solar power and AI-supported charging process management is particularly efficient, allowing companies to optimally integrate their charging infrastructure into their energy management and actively contribute to climate protection at the same time.
A practical example of sustainable logistics is Lidl Italia, which is the first company in Italy to use the all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 for long-distance transportation. In cooperation with Daimler Truck Italia and LC3 Trasporti, Lidl delivers temperature-controlled goods to stores in Trentino-Alto Adige and on Lake Garda during the summer months with zero emissions. The eActros 600 offers a range of up to 500 kilometers, a fast charging time of around 30 minutes and, with a payload of around 22 tons, is ideal for long-distance transport.
Werner & Mertz, known for its Frosch detergent brand, is also focusing on electromobility in logistics. In cooperation with the logistics service provider TST, a Scania electric truck is used for shuttle transport between the plant in Mainz and the warehouse location in Worms. The E-Scania 40R has a battery capacity of 624 kWh and achieves a range of over 350 kilometers. The truck is charged in TST’s newly opened charging park in Worms, which is powered by self-generated solar electricity. TST is also planning to expand a Germany-wide charging network for e-trucks to make it easier for smaller hauliers to switch to electromobility.
